Picture update

It has now been almost 7 weeks since Elijah was born. My doctor reminded me last week that it is now time to get back onto a routine and back to "normal." (Whatever normal is) How can life get back to normal when you aren't sleeping??? I suppose I can't argue his point. Life needs to get back to routine at some point. We are feeling much better. Elijah is sleeping longer stretches at night, however, I admit I have become lazy and have him sleep by my side. I wake up in the morning often wondering if I have gotten any sleep at all, because I am so aware of his presence. I have set a goal to start reading up on sleeping habits and routines. I was terrible at getting my last 2 to sleep through the night at a young age and find that I am falling into the trap again of feeding and holding him all night. I don't like to hear babies cry and I love to cuddle. I realize that I am in control (for the most part) of breaking these habits... I just need to figure out how. Any book suggestions or other suggestions would be helpful!

We just came off of a week of vacation from school. (Dan's) How did we spend it?? We all got sick. I was actually grateful that though it wasn't a fun break, that it happened when Dan could be home to relax and recover. We made a few changes around our apartment. We are trying to make our space more inviting and organized. This has been a gradual process and I feel like we are getting there. As most of you know, we have had "the slide" in our living room. It is a large little tykes play structure that the kids love. In trying to fit all of the baby stuff in our home, the slide has shuffled from room to room. I can't seem to put it in storage because the kids love it so much, but it was driving me absolutely nuts in the living room! We shuffled once more and put it back in a bedroom and created a calmer play area, or reading area in the living room, complete with one of those funky Ikea chairs that the kids love. In one of my theory classes at school we talked about the Montessori emphasis on creating inviting spaces for children. Books that have sat on Noelle's shelf-unread are now being used daily, all because they are on display where the kids see them. As for my organizational pursuits, that is an on-going battle. The solution to student apartment housing is organization. Without it, I would go crazy! Anything that is not absolutely necessary for daily life goes in storage. We clean, clean and clean to keep this space comfortable!  I can't believe how far we've come. Debbie was great about helping us put up shelving in Corom's room and Dan is always looking for ways to help me stay organized.

It's a Monday morning and I should probably start my day! Dan is interning this week in a neighboring county about an hour away. We are carless for the week. (Should be an adventure) Today we have planned for some friends to come play as we moms visit teach. Have a wonderful week!!! Noelle is ready for breakfast and the baby is crying and ready to eat- such is my life!!! I couldn't ask for anything better than being able to move at our own pace in the morning. Have a wonderful week!!!

Dan "You-tubing" Disney movies with the kids! Isn't this cute?

Elijah at 6 1/2 weeks

Corom loves books

We are so excited to see the kids using the chair for the purpose we had intended it to used-

My favorite book on baby sleep patterns is "The No Cry Sleep Solution" by Elizabeth Pantley.
If you just want a quick reference on how much sleep is age appropriate for children, try familysleep.com under sleep development.
Good luck

Hi Tami,
Congrats on the new addition! I can relate to the sleeping issues, we have had several of our own. My doctor recommended "Healthy sleep habits, happy baby" and it worked well with our little kids. I just got it at the Library, skimmed it really fast during my few quiet moments, and in a few weeks we saw massive improvement.
I hope you get some rest soon....

Well I can't help you on the book thing since I don't have any kiddos...but I love your thoughts on the rearranging I'm always trying to find ways to make our apartment seem more inviting.=) Elijah is adorable! But how could he not be with you two as his parents.

Great ideas to help take you all through the winter months! The kids are really growing up and changing. I hope you can get Elijah off his nocturnal schedule so you can enjoy your days more. Hope everyone is feeling better! Miss you all.

gets the book babywise, works like a charm--Rocky slept through the night at 4 weeks. It also factors in feedings, awake time, etc. Such a solid routine I love it.
