We have a counter on the side of ours that tells where people came from, what pictures they looked at and how they left. It is pretty nice. Going private you loose probably 90% of your traffic. Good luck!
Yeah, you need to sign up on this: http://www.statcounter.com/ so you can see where people are coming from. Once I got freaked out because of tons of new traffic, but then I realized through that web service that people were googling "damask pillows" and my blog was coming up because I blogged about someone on etsy who was selling them. So there might be a legitimate reason. Good luck!

Tami- I read your blog. I totally understand you being freaked out. I have my blog private, and I still never use our last name or my kids real first names. I have seen SO many news stories about the many ways people can use information from blogs to get into peoples lives. Sick!!

There's a way that you can make your blog un-searchable thru sites like Google or Bing. It's somewhere in the settings. I can show you while you guys are here, if you'd like. While I'm not sure if it actually works, when I google myself or Josh, our blog doesn't come up. However, when your name is googled, your blog does...

I look in on you guys. It's fun to keep up on all my old Tricks buddies. It is pretty scary out there, but just make sure to be careful with what you post and if you are really concerned about your family's safety then take your blog private. The only thing I don't like about private blogs is that they're harder to peek in on.

I read when you pop up on someone else's blog roll who I was reading (does that even make sense, haha) I am private because of not wanting to put my kids pictures out in public (my husband used to be a correctional officer at a mostly sex offender prison so we are super sensitive to that)- Kaci

Hi. I read your blog once in a blue moon when I'm reading Nicole's. You have such cute kids!
39 hits in a day would definitely freak me out, too! Like some of your other friends, I'm totally paranoid and that's why mine's private. it is true that significantly less people will read and comment once you go private. But I figure that both sets of the grandparents still read my blog, and that's really the most important thing to me, since the point of my blog is mostly in leu of scrapbooks and baby books.
